Goal
This is an assembly session with a plan. Your circled draft becomes the built thing, layer by layer, in the L11 order — background first, the speaker last, glue only behind certainty. By the close, your collage should be decided everywhere and finished except the top — next week’s A3 double is for the final layer, the edges, and the words, not for starting over.
How it runs
- Set-up (5 min) — drafts and dry-fit photographs out; materials stations open. Build order: background → large shapes → middle layers → the speaker → text last.
- Checkpoint (10 min) — before you glue: sixty seconds per student at tables — restate your main idea, show your draft, name your first three moves. If your draft no longer convinces you, re-compose now; gluing a doubt wastes a double.
- Studio: the build (60 min) — production, with three standing rules: dry-fit each layer before gluing it, and photograph every stage (the build sequence is sketchbook process evidence); stop at the speaker — the top element and any text stay unglued today so A3 opens with your strongest move still live; edges are decisions (torn vs cut, carried from L11). If you are doing a digital remix, work in Photoshop/Affinity — the same order applies and layers are literal. Save the working file; never flatten.
- Close (15 min) — write your finishing list: what remains, in what order, needing what. Park work flat; bag and name your scraps (next week’s spares). Next week runs under A3 conditions — your hands, your board, your reasons.
Assessment
SB2 — the second sketchbook spot-check — runs table by table during the studio block: progress and upkeep since SB1 (10-21), two-minute looks, marks entered the same day. The build itself is assessed next week as A3. Register: PAL S1 Assessments.
