bell hooks (lowercase, as she styled it) is one of the representation theorists in this course.

Representation theory

Cambridge lists her among the theorists you can use to study the concept of Representation, alongside Hall, Van Zoonen, Gilroy, and Alvarado. In media studies, hooks is most often used for the oppositional gaze.

In this course

You study hooks in L09, Day 4 (Friday single). The lesson covers the oppositional gaze as refusal and rereading — “who the text never expected to be looking” — closing the gaze topic and leading into CS6.
