DeliverableA1: Unit 1 board and justification
HomeworkGather candidate images, 30 min/night, days 1–3

Goal

The board is the course in miniature, and this is the first time you build one. A mood board with “obvious” adjacencies is not enough — the justification is what matters, and it is judged hard.

Do not start arranging before you have enough candidate images. If you begin early, you only arrange what you happen to have.

How it runs

  • Day 1 · Mon 14 Sept · U1·L10 — Neolithic: settlement and the made object. What changes in images when people stop moving.
  • Day 2 · Tue 15 Sept · U1·L11 — ritual objects and ancestral presence: what an object does, not only what it depicts.
  • Day 3 · Wed 16 Sept · U1·L12 — constellation workshop: two unlike images, one defended pairing, out loud, everybody. Direct practice for A1.
  • Day 4 · Thu 17 Sept · U1·L13 — build the Unit 1 board on the wall; nothing fixed today.
  • Day 5 · Fri 18 Sept · U1·L14 — final hang (20 min), justification written (20 min). A1 collected. Boards stay up.

Assessment

  • You sit A1 on Fri 2026-09-18 — Unit 1 board and justification. The criteria sheet is issued with the announcement on Fri 2026-09-04, not on the day. You are marked on: every adjacency justified with a reason that could not be moved to a different pair; the argument legible from the layout before a word is read; objects described by what they do.
  • The grade is half collective: a group board plus your individual write-up.
