What this lesson covers
Over three days you reach the end of the story the course has told since the caves: what makes something art when looking cannot tell you. Duchamp and Warhol arrive here. Day three sets the break homework, which is also the announcement of the retrospective. This is the last session before the break, so the notice covers the whole holiday.
How it runs
- Day 1 · Mon 21 Dec — Danto: the artworld and the end of art.
- Day 2 · Tue 22 Dec — Warhol, Duchamp, and pluralism: following the object out of the studio and into the institution — who decided, and where. LB8 posted. End-of-Semester Activity today: expect a short session.
- Day 3 · Wed 23 Dec — Retrospective announced (Thu 7 Jan, in class), then the break homework: three works, with reasons, 3–4 hours, not more.
Assessment
- LB8 — posted Tue 2026-12-22.
- Retrospective announced Wed 2026-12-23 — 15 days’ notice covering the holiday; the brief doubles as the break homework.
