Goal

Seven teaching days across two weeks, with the class split in both. The core content is in days one to three; later days are self-contained. A4 is announced on day seven, Tuesday 1 December, which is the last session both halves attend. Nothing is assessed in this lesson beyond two postings.

How it runs

• Day 1 · Mon 23 Nov · U4·L1 — Berger’s argument stated flat: a reproduction is not a neutral copy. The first objection, taken seriously. Reading set.
• Day 2 · Tue 24 Nov · U4·L2 — one painting, four contexts: change the words around an image and watch its meaning move.
• Day 3 · Wed 25 Nov · U4·L3 — seminar: what did the painting lose, what did it gain, by becoming reproducible. LB6 posted.
• Day 4 · Thu 26 Nov · U4·L4 — self-contained (G12 out): a reproduction read as an object with decisions of its own.
• Day 5 · Fri 27 Nov · U4·L5 — self-contained (G12 out): write the caption that changes the picture, then write the honest one. The deliverable.
• Day 6 · Mon 30 Nov · U4·L6 — Godard, Goodbye to Language, one extract: sit with an image that refuses to add up, and stay with it. Standalone.
• Day 7 · Tue 1 Dec · U4·L7 — A4 announced (Unit 4 synthesis, due Thu 17 Dec), then the floating world as a market, not a mood. LB7 posted.
