S1 Unit 5: Final Outcome & Portfolio

What this unit does

This is the final-outcome and portfolio stage, under AO4 Present. You build your final outcome in one continuous run: four build days, a mid-production review with real time still left, and three resolve days. Submission week then treats assembly as a supervised craft — examiner-grade photography, sequencing your whole journey, an edit with a cut log, and A4, the final portfolio marked across AO1–AO4, which closes the semester.

Dates & span

Mon 2026-12-14 → Fri 2027-01-08 (W16 → W19), with the winter break (W18) between the declared finish and supervised assembly. The late-work cutoff (around Fri 2027-01-01) falls during the break. These dates may shift when the school publishes the calendar for this period.

Lessons

  • Lesson 14: The Final Outcome — four-day build (underdrawing → mid-stages → production → detail), a mid-production review while change is still possible, then a three-day resolve run ending in a written declared finish.
  • Lesson 15: Submission Week and A4 — photograph, sequence, edit with cut log, final AO check, submission Thursday, and a semester reflection with the C3 bridge on Friday.

Assessment

A4 is due Thu 2027-01-07 — the final portfolio (your resolved outcome plus the complete supporting portfolio, sequenced and edited), marked against AO1–AO4. No edits after submission. It is announced Mon 2026-12-21, giving you a 17-day window that covers the break. Grades and comments are returned by Wed 2027-01-20.

Key content

  • The build run is the semester’s longest and is protected. Any lost day here has no home elsewhere: there are no spare days in the calendar, so attendance matters. Nothing new enters the room during the run.
  • The declared finish (Wed 2026-12-23) is real: the break is rest with no homework, and the portfolio is assembled only in the supervised January sessions.
  • Submission craft: your photograph is the version the examiner sees; the sequence reads theme → recording → exploration → artists → development → outcome without narration; at least one page is cut for not earning its place, and the cut is logged as evidence of editorial judgment if a mark is queried.
  • Friday closes with the C3 bridge: your winter homework is three candidate Personal Investigation themes with annotated references, opening the Semester 2 consultation cycle on Mon 2027-02-22.
