S3 Unit 1: Review & Goal Setting
A Level Art & Design · Semester 3 Plan · Unit 1 · 1st of 4 this semester · Unit 4 →
What this unit does
This unit reopens the Personal Investigation after the summer production window. You lay out all your summer output and audit it honestly against the targets you set in June — met, missed, missing — and defend it one to one, piece by piece. You then turn the audit into goals that name specific pages, pieces and dates, and the unit closes with a written, dated, signed action plan that governs the semester to the December submission.
Where this unit sits
S3 skips U2 and U3. Recording and exploration were completed in Semester 2, so the work resumes here at review, then jumps straight to U4, the development second pass. The unit numbering (U1, U4, U5, U6) follows the pipeline stages.
Dates & span
Weeks W1–W2 (Wed 2027-09-01 → ~2027-09-08), 5 sessions. These dates are provisional and may shift once the school publishes the calendar for this period.
Sequence of work

Assessment
There are no attainment gates in this unit. The first, A1, sits Thu 2027-10-14 in Unit 4. One CS task falls here: CS1 Fri 2027-09-03 (summer portfolio audit against the set targets, marked piece by piece). See the full register.
Key content
- ◆ The audit marks against your June targets, not against effort — what was set in writing in June is what counts in September.
- Every summer piece must be present, annotated and judged against a named target. Unannotated work fails the audit standard and costs AO1.
- The action plan is the semester’s contract: written, dated, signed and specific.
- Your summer reading reflections open research paper draft 2 in Unit 4.
