Goal

In this lesson the theme becomes an investigation. By Friday you can say, in writing, what you are looking at and why, you have opened the theme wider than your first idea, and you have chosen one composition to sustain — with the rejections written down. Choosing and rejecting in writing is the top-band habit this lesson builds.

How it runs

  • Tue 09-15 — two exemplar intentions read aloud (one strong, one vague); drafting frame on the board: I am investigating / because / I will record; write, swap, tighten — your partner strikes every empty word.
  • Wed 09-16 — mind mapping from the object outward (material, function, memory, opposite); A3 mind map, at least three branches past the first idea; circle the branch that surprised you.
  • Thu 09-17 — the thumbnail as a cheap test (5×7 cm, tone blocked, thirty seconds of decision each); six or more thumbnails from the mind map’s strongest branches; squint-test pin-up.
  • Fri 09-18 — re-read your intention against the surviving thumbnails; choose one; annotate every rejection with one honest line; assemble the CS2 sheet. CS2 collected. The sustained study begins Sunday.

Assessment

CS2 (intention statement + mind map, written annotation) is collected Fri 2026-09-18 — see the full register. It is direct practice for A1: your intention and mind map reappear inside the recording milestone.

Dates for this period may shift when the school publishes its calendar.
