Goal
This week you audit the semester’s knowledge before the exam tests it. Monday reviews A4 against the mark scheme, not the grade. Tuesday rehearses Section B arguments aloud before you write one. The Wednesday double builds the coverage matrix: every case study crossed against the four Key Concepts, so you can find the cell you have not covered — that cell is what HW2 and the break are for.
How it runs
D1 — Mon 12-21: the A4 review
- Self-band first (20 min) — A4 is returned face-down. Re-read your script against the five-criteria rubric and band yourself on each criterion before you see the mark. Then you get the mark with per-criterion AO splits. The conversation is the gap between the two.
- The target thread (15 min) — log one target from the splits and connect it in writing to your L11 target: the same thread, or a new gap? You now have two data points for the Forecast Grade conversation.
- Close (5 min) — revisit the unfed-criterion note from L12: did A4 feed it? For most of you, the answer is the target.
D2 — Tue 12-22: arguments, aloud
- The shape (10 min) — the four moves of a Section B argument on the board: claim → evidence → counter → response. Not an essay plan — an argument you could win out loud.
- Trios (25 min) — argue one case-study question aloud in a trio: one arguing, one countering from the same case study, one refereeing for evidence. Rotate three times. The talk is the drafting.
- Written close (10 min) — in the last ten minutes, capture the argued case as a skeleton plan. This comes after the talk on purpose: plans written cold go stale; plans that survived a counter don’t.
D3 — Wed 12-23 (double): the matrix, and the break brief
- The matrix (40 min) — built live: rows = every case study in your documents; columns = Language, Representation, Industry, Audience. Score each cell honestly: evidence in the document, thin, or empty. You leave with your weakest cell named in writing — that cell is your HW2 target.
- LB5 (10 min) — posted: case-study document contributions since L12, dated entries counted.
- HW2 set and sized (15 min) — the break pack: one revision page per case study (the WS 5.3 National Geographic sheet models what a page contains) plus one Section B essay plan aimed at your named weakest cell. Total 3–4 hours across eleven days; due Mon 2027-01-04, the first day back.
- EoT announced (10 min) — the full two-hour Component 2, in the exam window from Mon 2027-01-11; this session gives you at least 14 days’ notice. Format: A4’s format plus Section B — nothing you have not now done. This date may shift when the school publishes the calendar for that period; the final date will be confirmed in class.
- Close (5 min) — take home your revision-card deck and your case-study document; nothing else.
