Goal
This last teaching week removes surprises from the exam’s format, timing, and mark scheme. HW2 is due Monday and feeds into the week. The Wednesday double is a full Section B under exam time, peer-marked so you read the mark scheme as a marker once before being marked by it. Friday names exactly where marks are lost.
How it runs
D1 — Mon 01-04: the paper, end to end
- HW2 in (10 min) — break packs collected; a thirty-second stand-up per student: which cell did your essay plan target?
- The walk-through (25 min) — the full Paper 2 walked end to end, using the Your Honor rehearsal paper, following the rubric’s own clock: 30 minutes viewing and notes (four screenings, no notes on the first, notes crossed out) · 45 minutes Section A · 45 minutes Section B. The frozen Q1 stem is read aloud — it is identical in every sitting, so know it cold by Friday.
- Close (10 min) — write your personal minute budget inside the sections: paragraphs, plan time, check time. You use this budget on Wednesday.
D2 — Tue 01-05: plans against the clock
- The drill (30 min) — five-minute Section B plans, three rounds, questions from the CS9 bank: read, plan (claim / evidence / counter / response + case-study facts), pens down at five minutes exactly.
- The compare (10 min) — swap your round-three plans: could you write this stranger’s essay from their plan? If not, what’s missing is what the examiner would miss too.
- Close (5 min) — WS 4.5 pairing sentences at speed: technique + content in one sentence, five times.
D3 — Wed 01-06 (double): CS9, full dress
- Set-up (5 min) — one question chosen on the day from the bank; exam conditions on.
- CS9 (45 min) — the full Section B, timed exactly, on your own case studies.
- Peer-mark (30 min) — swap scripts; mark a peer’s script against the official five-criteria rubric, band words and all, comments in the WS 4.6 comment-bank style. Reading the scheme as a marker is the point; the mark is a by-product.
- Moderate (10 min) — the teacher moderates a live sample of three scripts, thinking aloud where the peer marks drifted.
D4 — Fri 01-08: the AO economy — last teaching day
- The economics (20 min) — where the 25 marks sit: AO1 15 (concepts / contexts / terminology) · AO2 10 (analysis / examples), five criteria, best-fit per criterion. Mapped against the class’s CS9 results: which criteria the room feeds naturally, which it starves.
- Two loss points (15 min) — leave with two named loss points and the counter-move for each, written on one card for your revision deck (e.g. “I list techniques without effects → every technique gets a ‘so that’ clause”).
- Close (10 min) — exam logistics: the window opens Monday, your slot comes from the exam office, screening facilities are booked, bring nothing but pens. End on the success check: state the full paper structure and per-section minute budget from memory.
